Lech Poznań – Piast Gliwice 1:0

The break between the fourth round of Europa Conference League qualifiers and the recent PKO BP Ekstraklasa game was short, hence coach John van den Brom made a few changes in the starting line-up for the Sunday clash with Piast Gliwice. One of the players who appeared in the first eleven was Afonso Sousa. The Portuguese footballer didn’t appear on the pitch during the Thursday match against F91 Dudelange, hence he was rested and full of energy for the league clash which we showed since the start of the game.

In the first offensive attempt of the Portuguese player, he fired a strong shot from outside the box which surprised Plach and turned out to be the decisive moment of the match. With a one-goal advantage, Lech became more relaxed and remained in control of the game. The midfield trio Sousa – Kvekveskiri – Karlstrom delivered a very solid performance. For the Swedish player, it was his debut as a captain since his teammate, Mikael Ishak, was absent as a result of an injury.

Filip Szymczak replaced the Swedish forward in the offensive line, and although he didn’t score, he delivered a good performance. He was active in the offense and caused problems for Piast’s defenders. Joel Pereira also received recognition for his solid defending against one of Piast’s best players – Damian Kądzior.

It was Lech’s first league win of the season. On Wednesday, the players will face Lechia Gdańsk in an away game (8:30 pm).
