A poor ending to a poor season – a good conclusion of Lech’s Sunday clash with Górnik Zabrze. The team from Poznań drew 1:1 at home in the last match of the 2020/2021 season.
The fans have finally reappeared on the stands, for the first time this year, and Lech quickly gave them a reason to celebrate – in the 9th minute, Jan Sykora raced down the right flank and crossed the ball into the penalty area where Dani Ramirez was waiting; the latter converted the pass into a goal with a strong and precise volley.
However, as time went by, Lech seemed to be less and less effective in the offence despite having plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. Aron Johannsson, who has been replacing injured Mikael Ishak, has the best opportunities to score but he wasted both one-on-one clashes with Górnik’s keeper.
The wasted opportunities took revenge on Lech and less than 15 minutes before the final time, Bartosz Nowak scored an equalizer for Górnik. The midfielder sent the ball into the left corner of Mickey van der Hart’s goal; the Dutch keeper failed to stop it from falling into the back of the net and, as a result, the two teams shared points in the last game of the season which Lech ends being ranked 11th – far below expectations.
