Lech helps raise awareness

The Sunday home league clash with Wisla Plock was the first match during which Lech Poznan played in unique shirts designed in remembrance of the 100^th anniversary of the Greater Poland Uprising. “I am glad we have the opportunity to help raise awareness of an important historical event,” emphasised Maciej Makuszewski, Lech’s winger.

The Greater Poland Uprising began on December 27^th, 1918 and lasted until February 16^th the following year. It’s one of the four uprisings in the Polish history that have ended with a triumph for the white-and-red. The importance of this historical event is indisputable, and Lech Poznan honours its memory every year. This year, on the 100^th anniversary of the uprising, the club decided to prepare unique shirts in remembrance of the events that happened nearly a hundred years ago. Lech’s footballers will wear the special shirts during each of the remaining five matches scheduled for this calendar year.

The whole squad is aware of the reasons behind the one-of-a-kind match jerseys in which they will perform during the upcoming league games. “At first, some of the players in the dressing room were curious why the shirts differed, therefore, we explained to them the reason. Now everyone’s fully aware as to why the club made this decision. It’s great to wear such unique match kits once in a while,” explained Kamil Jozwiak, Lech’s midfielder.

Makuszewski agreed with his younger teammate and raised another important issue. “What really matters is that we can help increase the awareness about a historical event as important as the 100^th anniversary of the local uprising. We are glad to participate and aid in any way we can. When it comes to such actions, I am always up for it,” highlighted the winger.
