In the Saturday clash with Legia Warsaw, Christian Gytkjaer set the final score to 2:0. This goal helped him become the 2nd top foreign scorer in the history of Lech Poznan.
In the 23rd round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan beat Legia Warsaw at Home. Vujadinovic and Gytkjaer got the 2 goals for the hosts. For the Danish striker, it was the 11th goal of the season. “In that match we looked so much better in terms of our mentality, attitude, and it helped us play more confidently and aggressively. I believe that even physically we were better than Legia. We felt significantly better in that game than in the two previous matches,” explained Gytkjaer.
“This result is very important for the club, the fans, and the city. It was an attractive win and I hope that it will give us a lot of positive energy. Now what we focus on is our performance against Arka. We need to use that motivational boost from the win in the upcoming game,” added the striker.
The match against Legia Warsaw was full of direct clashes between players which we were often regarded as fouls. “The game was relatively balanced but we were better in the opening minutes. We adapted high pressing which enabled us to recover the ball on Legia’s half of the pitch – that was the key. Of course, it wasn’t one of those matches which are full of scoring chances; it was a classic derby game filled with direct clashes and physical play,” emphasized Dane.
Gytkjaer’s goal scored on Saturday was his 36th for Lech Poznan. In the ranking of top foreign goal scorers, he has one more footballer to overcome – Artjoms Rudnevs. The Danish striker is still 8 goals behind the Latvian forward. However, if we were to consider league goals only, Gytkjaer has 30 of those already, whilst Rudnevs and Hamalainen have 33 each.
