Lech Poznan has five games left until the end of the season. Winning all of them will guarantee the team from Poznan championship title. However, the players emphasize that right now they’re concentrating on the clash with Gornik Zabrze only.
Since the implementation of ESA-37 league system, not a single team managed to win all 7 games in the playoffs. We already know that Lech won’t be the first club to achieve that. Two weeks ago, the team from Poznan lost to Korona Kielce. However, Lech’s rivals were also beaten in the first playoff game, therefore the team from Poznan remained the leader in the league ranks.
Lech didn’t make the same mistake twice and in the next match, they beat Zaglebie Lubin 0:1. Nonetheless, the 3 points didn’t help Bjelica’s players increase the point advantage over their rivals since both Jagiellonia, and Legia won their matches too. The two clubs are only a point behind Lech. “That’s what makes me regret the wasted penalty kick against Korona. If only I scored, we would have had a bigger advantage over our opponents,” explained Darko Jevtic.
However, the Swiss midfielder doesn’t want to look back in regret. “Our goal is to win the Championship. We know where we are currently and what we need to do to win the title. Paradoxically, it will be a long journey. There are five difficult games ahead of us, some of them against potential winners of the Championship. It’s time to kick off the week, focus on the next match and win it,” added Darko Jevtic.
The balance between offensive strength and defensive tactics will be an important element of Lech’s plan to win the title. In the game against Korona, Lech didn’t score despite having numerous scoring chances. Interestingly, against Zaglebie Lubin, the team from Poznan had a single goal-scoring opportunity only and they converted it into a goal. “I am hoping that in the upcoming games we will be equally efficient as against Zaglebie,” said Nikola Vujadinovic who’s appeared in nearly every single match this spring.
Since there are only five matches left until the end of the season, all the teams are perfectly aware of the importance of each and every clash. There is no room for errors because even a small mistake might result in losing a shot at the title, especially considering the fact that the second and third team are only a point behind the current leader. Also, we cannot forget that all three clubs are yet still to face one another in the playoffs.
