Nicki Bille has been fighting his way back to full form during the winter training camp in Aiya Napa. The Danish forward is still recovering from an injury. However, on Sunday the footballer trained with the rest of the squad and with the same intensity. “I have to remain careful for the injury not to come back,” said the Dane.
The 29-year-old has been recovering from a groin injury for the past weeks. In October the forward underwent a treatment in Barcelona, which was carried out by Dr Ramon Cugat Bertomeu. The well-known Spanish orthopaedist is specialising in the treatment of sport professionals. After returning to Poznan, the Dane started the rehabilitation and after 2 months he joined the rest of the squad on a training session for the first time. In December the forward began training with normal intensity, but not as frequently as other players.
“I suffered a serious injury. I have never before had to pause for such a long time. It was a tough period for me. For over 4 months I couldn’t play football. Now I am playing again and every training session, every touch of the ball brings me a lot of joy. I use every chance I get to play,” explained the Danish footballer. “Nicki is about to return. It’s going to be a great comeback.”
On Sunday the striker trained with full intensity. Before that, the Dane usually trained with Szymon Pawlowski individually. Both footballers are recovering from an injury, but that doesn’t mean they were given time off on Cyprus. Andrzej Kasprzak, the fitness coach, makes sure that both players work hard, even when they are separated from the rest of the team. “We had a number of demanding, tiring sessions, which were very intense. It’s all meant to make us well prepared for the second part of the season. I have to work really hard to become fit again and to remain fit throughout the season,” said Nicki Bille.
So far the Dane missed two friendly games of the preparatory period. However, he hopes that soon he will get a chance to join his teammates on the pitch and compete during one of the winter friendlies. The footballer is in the last stage of recovery since he is now training normally with the rest of the squad. “I am living in the present, instead of looking ahead. I know I have been absent for a long time. Therefore, I need to recover slowly and work hard on my fitness, so that I can avoid injuries. I have to be careful because I have had a number of health problems recently,” explained Nicki Bille.
