After a year-long break, Lukasz Tralka is once again going to captain Lech’s senior team. The midfielder is one of the four players that have been chosen by the coach to lead the squad. “Other footballers look up to those players and follow their example,” explained Djurdjevic.
Since Djurdjevic took over the team, a couple of players had the chance to wear the captain armband. Every match, a different footballer would be assigned as the leader. In total, 10 players were given an opportunity to show their leadership skills. After the Sunday clash with Legia Warsaw, the coach decided to put an end to the armband’s rotation.
“We knew this moment could come. On Tuesday I chose four footballers who are going to lead the dressing room. They all have the experience and spent some time at the club or stand out thanks to their leadership skills,” explained the Serbian coach.
From now on, Lukasz Tralka, Jasmin Buric, Pedro Tiba and Thomas Rogne are going to lead the team. “Buric and Tralka have been here the longest. They lost a lot of matches, but they also won a lot of trophies. Rogne has a great attitude, whilst Tiba is a quality footballer on and off the pitch,” emphasized Djurdjevic. “These footballers will undoubtedly support others when necessary. Also, as a result, the communication between the team and the training staff will be more effective.”
The initial decision to let multiple players wear the captain armband was an attempt to get to know the team better. The knowledge the coach gathered throughout these past weeks has helped Djurdjevic make the right decision. “Whenever I took over the team, I was determined to get to know everyone. The armband rotation was meant to motivate players to take responsibility. It was a whole process and as a result, I know which footballers are perceived as leaders by the rest of the team,” said Djurdjevic.
After a year-long break, Lukasz Tralka will once more be Lech’s captain after having the chance to wear the armband a couple of times this season. “Tralka comes first, Buric second, and then Rogne and Tiba. Lukasz is friendly with everyone, same with Buric. Pedro is great with Dioni, Amaral, and Vernon, whilst Thomas has a great overall attitude. I chose those four and I believe they will do great,” summarised the coach.
