Nenad Bjelica’s first match as Lech’s coach can be surely called successful. On Sunday the players from Poznań won with Pogoń Szczecin 3:1. Bjelica has had the most successful debut from all the previous 4 coaches.
Lech’s last coach to win in his debut match was Jose Mari Bakero. In November 2010 the team from Poznań led by the Spaniard won in Europa League phase against Manchester City. Injac, Możdżeń and Arboleda scored the goals that helped Lech secure a 3:1 win. Six years have passed before another coach at Lech had a similarly successful debut.
In the meantime, 4 different coaches have been hired by the club from Poznań. Maciej Skorża’s first game with his new team might be considered the most unsucessful, since Lech lost against Jagiellonia Białystok 0:1. Nevertheless, the same coach led Lech Poznań to win the championship.
The three other coaches drew their first match. Rumak’s debut ended with a goalless tie with Wisła Cracow. Chrobak drew in the match with Pogoń (1:1) and Urban’s debut in the clash with Ruch Chorzów finished with a two-goal draw.
The Sunday game with Pogoń Szczecin was also the first match after the national teams’ groupings that Lech won since nearly 3 years. The last time that the club from Poznań did not lose points in the clash following the break was in November 2013 when Lech won with Cracovia 6:1.
