Lech drew in the first league match of 2018. The team from Poznan faced Arka Gdynia in an away clash that ended with a 0:0 score – Lech’s 10th tie this season.
The hosts began the match well and took control of the ball, frequently enclosing Lech in their box. Meanwhile, Lech searched for opportunities to counterattack, especially relying on Barkroth’s speed. However, the team from Poznan wasn’t efficient in their attacks. Radut came the closest to scoring when the guests were given a free kick, but Dilvaer failed to redirect the ball into the back of the net.
Arka dominated the match and played better football, creating multiple scoring chances. In the 23rd minute, Buric was forced to intervene when Marciniak fired a precise shot at his goal. The goalkeeper managed to stop the ball from falling into the back of the net and Arka was given a corner kick. In the meantime, Lech did not impress, especially considering the number of imprecise passes.
Lech had only one good scoring chance in the first half when Gytkjaer dribbled around Zbozien and sent a long ball to Gajos. The latter passed to Barkroth who was positioned on the opposite flank and the Swede redirected the ball into the box where Gytkjaer was already waiting. However, the Dane lost the fight in the air. In the 40th minute, Arka should have scored following a great scoring chance for Zarandia, but the player’s attempt to place the ball in the corner of the goal was slightly off target.
In the second half, Lech remained in possession of the ball for longer periods of time and within 6 minutes from the whistle, they had an opportunity to score. Kostevych sent a cross into the box and Gytkjaer left Arka’s defenders behind. Unfortunately for Lech, his shot flew next to the post. Unluckily for the player, he was also forced to leave the pitch due to an injury shortly afterward and he was replaced by Khoblenko.
The second half looked similar to the first part of the match, however, Lech seemed to be more in control. Nonetheless, their possession of the ball did not result in scoring chances. The guests were given a free kick that Radut converted into a shot, but Arka’s goalkeeper stopped the ball effortlessly. In the 71st minute, the keeper had a more difficult task. A free kick for Lech resulted in chaos in Arka’s box and Dilaver was given enough space to shoot. However, his attempt was directed straight at the goalkeeper.
15 minutes before the final time, Buric was forced to intervene. Jurado crossed the ball into the box from the right flank, Piesio intercepted the ball and Szwoch fired a volley at the goal. Buric saved the shot in time and it wasn’t his first remarkable intervention that night. Shortly afterward, Arka counterattacked and Piesio finished the offensive action with a shot, but once again, Buric made no mistake, ensuring that the match did not end with a loss for Lech.
