Jakub Antczak, similar to Kristoffer Velde, made his debut in Lech’s senior team on Saturday, in the clash with Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza (5:0). The 17-year-old Academy player has made incredible progress recently – just this season, he appeared in Central Junior League, eWinner 2nd League, and the PKO BP Ekstraklasa.
Antczak has had an outstandingly successful period recently. In January, the midfielder joined the senior team for the winter training camp in Turkey. The 17-year-old made an appearance in all friendly games played in Belek. After the team’s return to Poznań, he was officially announced as the new member of the first-team squad. Antczak didn’t get to debut in the clash with Cracovia (3:3), but in Saturday’s match against Bruk-Bet Nieciecza, the youngster made his first appearance in front of the Poznań crowd.
“Football is a dynamic sport where anything can happen, hence I stayed ready. I knew things could take a different turn at any time, but I kept on working hard, knowing that I was here for a reason. I managed to join the team in Belek and paint myself in a good light, and then I also got to debut for the senior squad. Now my objective is to get as many minutes in Ekstraklasa as possible,” said the 17-year-old.
The winger appeared on the pitch in the 71st minute, in place of Dani Ramirez. For the remaining 20 minutes of the game, Antczak was very active. One of his movements without the ball created space for Joel Pereira who played a key role in Dawid Kownacki’s goal. “A debut for Lech is an amazing feeling. The supporters make a difference – it’s great to be able to perform in front of such a crow; their applause helped a lot to me. It’s been my dream since I was a kid. I think that considering it was my debut, I delivered a promising performance. Of course, it could have been even better – there is always something to improve – but for a first game, I did alright,” explained Antczak.
