After two years, F91 Dudelange has once again been crowned champions of Luxembourg. Coach Fangueiro’s squad left their rival Differdange 03 five points behind in the national race and won the 16th national championship title in their history.
F91 Dudelange was established in 1991 as a result of a merger of Alliance Dudelange, Stade Dudelange, and US Dudelange. The newly formed squad quickly made their way into the top division and 9 years later, they won their first championship title. Since then, the team from Stade Jos Nosbaum has regularly triumphed in the league. No other team in Luxembourg won as many Nationaldivisioun titles in the 21st century. However, it is Jeunesse Esch that remains the club with the most league championships (28) on their account.
After dominating in the national arena came the time for success on the international stage. In the 2018/2019 season, F91 Dudelange advanced to the group stage of the Europa League for the first time in the club’s history, after beating FC Drita (2:1, 1:1), Legia Warsaw (2:1, 2:2), and CFR Cluj (2:0, 3:2) in the qualifications. The squad from Stade Jos Nosbaum went on to compete in group F against AC Milan, Real Betis, and Olympiacos Piraeus. F91 Dudelange won just one point in the European competition that season, but they had an opportunity to improve their statistics the following year when they advanced to the group stage once again. This time, the Luxembourg squad faced Apoel Nicosia, Karabach Agdam, and Sevilla, and managed to collect four points in total thanks to a win against the Cyprian team (4:3) and a draw against Qurban Qurbanow’s squad (1:1).
