“Everyone who gets a chance wants to show his best,” explained Nicklas Barkroth. The Swedish midfielder was a part of the starting line-up against Piast Gliwice on Sunday. The footballer was in the first eleven for the 5th time this season.
The 25-year-old joined Lech in the recent window transfer. The rivalry on his position is intense, with the likes of Maciej Makuszewski being a frequent part of starting line-up due to his great disposition. That makes it harder for Nicklas Barkroth who usually starts the match on the bench. So far, the midfielder played in 18 matches, and during 13 of them he came in as a substitute.
“It’s a normal situation because I am new to the team. What matters is that whenever I get a chance to play, I perform well and show the coach what I’m capable of. My role is to create scoring chances, the way I did against Piast Gliwice,” said the Swede who, on Sunday, played on the left wing. “It’s not my main position, however, I don’t mind playing there. The coach wanted me and Maciej to switch the wings,” added the midfielder.
Barkroth didn’t manage to help his team win on Sunday afternoon. The player spent 70 minutes on the pitch and was replaced by Kamil Jozwiak. In the past weeks, the Swede didn’t have that many chances to play. Against Wisla Plock, he got 6 minutes, against Sandecja 19 minutes, while in the clash with Wisla Cracow just 9. Last time Barkroth got to spend a longer a time on the pitch was against Jagiellonia in October.
“It’s a pity about the result. I believe we played well. We had numerous scoring chances, the ball hit the crossbar twice. In my opinion, we deserved more. However, that’s the way it is sometimes, especially in football. The last game gave us a lot to think about and forced us to work even harder. We need to be better to win the upcoming matches,” emphasized Barkroth.
