“The score has affected us deeply, but it’s just a single game and yet there is a lot of noise around it. There are things we are still working on. Sometimes we need to take the risk, which I will keep on doing. Lech isn’t a club that plays cautiously,” explained Ivan Djurdjevic during a press conference.
On Sunday, Lech will play the 6th league match of the season, this time against Zaglebie Lubin. It will be the 3rd game the team from Poznan will play away from home. The team’s goal is to win. “We aim to win every game whilst playing better than before. We are aware of Zaglebie’s strengths, as well as their weaknesses,” said Lech’s coach.
During the Wednesday media day during which the journalists talked to Pawel Tomczyk and coach Marek Bajor, it’s been noted that the team seems to struggle with the new tactical system imposed by the coach. The Serb disagreed with the statement. “It doesn’t matter what system we play, if we aren’t active, aggressive, and don’t use high pressing, it’s not going to work. Whilst playing 3 defenders, we won 4 league games and lost a single one. It isn’t a big tactical change,” highlighted Djurdjevic.
The recent league clash with Wisla Cracow ended with Lech losing 2:5. The team reassured that it was an individual accident resulting from the players’ poor defending. “The score has affected us deeply, but it’s just a single game and yet there is a lot of noise around it. There are things we are still working on. Sometimes we need to take the risk, which I will keep on doing. Lech isn’t a club that plays cautiously. We need to find the strengths of our performance and enhance them, and search for the weaknesses and eliminate them,” explained the Serbian coach.
During the past week, the squad has had more time for recovery, analysis, and training than usual. “A lot of things we worked on during the pre-season were wasted. The league and Europa League qualifications were our priority. We didn’t have much time to practice, unlike now when we have the chance to evaluate our performance carefully. This past week we spent a lot of time talking and analyzing. The players were tired after the dozen or so matches, thus we used the time to recover and then get back to work,” commented the coach.
This season, the team has been creating a lot of scoring chances thanks to the new tactical system. It’s one of the most noticeable changes in comparison to the previous season during which the team sometimes struggled to come close to the opponent’s goal. “We have been creating multiple goal-scoring opportunities which is a good thing. Now we need to find a balance between the defense and the offensive. We are currently occupying the top spot in the league, but it doesn’t mean anything yet because it’s just the beginning. The clash with Wisla gave us a lot to think about. However, it isn’t a reason to give up and use the old tactical formation. We need to work harder and progress. No risk, no gain,” emphasized Djurdjevic.
