“Championship title remains an open case”

Despite winning a single point only in Plock, Lech still has a shot at the championship - the current league table doesn’t determine the winner. In the Wednesday league clash, Lech will face one of their direct competitors for the title – Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Lech Poznan drew the most recent league match against Wisla Plock. The single point that the team from Poznan brought back from Plock was the 4th one they won during the playoffs. The players don’t hide their disappointment with the recent results, but they also emphasise that they won’t give up and the upcoming home game against Jagiellonia will be a chance rehabilitate.

“Two games without a win is an underperformance. We are angry and full of energy after the match against Wisla Plock, and there is no point in hiding that. Our goal was to bring 3 points home and we failed. We are perfectly aware of the importance of the upcoming match against Jagielonia. Playing the game mid-week and at home is an advantage. I am sure that performing in front of our audience, the will score goals and win,” explained Maciej Makuszewski. “Jagiellonia is aware of their shot at the championship, but in order to win, they cannot make any mistakes. However, our task is to focus on ourselves only,” added the midfielder.

His younger teammate agrees with Makuszewski. Kamil Jozwiak has been performing well recently and, similarly to his senior colleagues, recognises the lack of precision and luck that stopped Lech from beating Wisla’s keeper, Dahne.

“In the clash with Wisla, we were imprecise. We had scoring chances, but we failed to convert them. Additionally, we were short on luck. Situm and Gytkjaer came close to scoring, but in both cases, the keeper intervened impressively. We dominated the game, built goal-scoring opportunities, but it wasn’t enough. We still have 3 matches to go and the championship title remains an open case,” emphasised Jozwiak.
