Lech Poznań successfully bounced back from two losses by beating Zagłębie Lubin 3:1 at home. Patrik Walemark, who scored two goals, became the night's hero.
For the first time since October, Niels Frederiksen’s squad had to win a league match to regain the leader’s seat. This time, the squad from Poznań faced Zagłębie Lubin who have also been struggling since the start of the spring round. According to the media, Zagłębie’s coach was close to being fired and his future could come down to the clash with Lech.
Lech began the match in the best possible way – by scoring an early goal. In the 2nd minute, Patrik Walemark converted a free kick into a beautiful, technical shot that was impossible for Dominik Hładun to save. Zagłębie immediately got back to work and it didn’t take them long to equalize thanks to Damian Michalski. The fans gathered at Bułgarska Street were watching an exhilarating clash and not long later, the score changed again. Once again, Patrik Walemark played a key role in the offensive attempt – he finished an individual run with a precise, technical shot. Both teams were hungry for more goals, but despite the goal-scoring chances, when the referee announced halftime, Niels Frederiksen’s team was still up by one goal.
Zagłębie returned for the second half determined to turn the tables, but Bartosz Mrozek’s current form made it hard for them to put the ball in the back of Lech’s net. Meanwhile, Lech waited for opportunities to counterattack and in the 79th minute, they succeeded. Dino Hotić, Filip Jagiełło, and Rasmus Carstensen played the key roles in the offensive attempt which the latter finished with a strong, impossible-to-stop shot. It was the Dane’s first goal for Lech, and it ended up setting the final score to 3:1 for the hosts. As a result, Lech is once again the leader of PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Next week, they will face Pogoń Szczecin in a challenging away clash.
